Faith Center Island City/La Grande began on February 16th, 1980. Pastor Ted and Sheila Davis held the first service that Sunday in their living room, and the monthly report for that service shows that there had been thirteen in attendance; four adults and nine children.

In March of 1980, the newly formed congregation began renting out the old Farm Bureau Hall in Island City. Our congregation began to grow with the addition of precious new families. By May, our weekly attendance had risen to 34 on Sunday morning. By December of 1980 our numbers had grown to 63 on the Lord's Day, and the core families of an emerging work of God were being closely knit together.

By February of 1985, there were 202 in attendance on Sunday morning. The size of Faith Center had required the Church to expand it's Children's Ministries to the A Frame office space at Valley Realty. Shortly thereafter, our size led us to rent the gymnasium at the Island City School each Sunday. A school bus was rented each week, and at the end of worship each week, the Children's Church would be loaded onto the bus and transported back to the Farm Bureau, and then back again, to rejoin parents at 12:15!

It was during the years 1985-87 that God led this Church to acquire property on three and a half acres, one block north of the Island City School. The congregation moved into a newly constructed "home of their own" in September of 1987.

Over the past 20 years this congregation has enjoyed not only the joy of seeing hundreds coming to Christ and being baptized, but God has continued to reaffirm our calling to reach those here locally and around the world, who have yet to receive the world's only hope and our only Savior, Jesus. To that end, five additional members of the Pastoral Staff has been added to shepherd this growing work.

There have been many changes at Faith Center in the last few years. As of April, 2008 Pastor David Eddy completed a 6 year transition and has stepped into the role of Senior Pastor while Pastor Ted Davis, our founding pastor, has taken on the role of Associate Pastor.
And so this church remains committed to be a family, a community that is devoted to loving God and loving people here in the Grande Ronde Valley and around the world.
